Narcissists work the exact same way. Their main goal in a relationship is to slowly cut your lines of communication with the outside world. They want to clip your social wings so you cannot fly away when things get bad.
If you honestly tell a narcissist that you’re lonely or that you don’t talk to your family anymore, you’re flashing a giant green light. You’re telling them nobody is watching. You’re letting them know they can gaslight you, scream at you, and warp your reality without anyone ever stepping in to give you a reality check.
You must build a fake security fence around yourself immediately. It may be real in your case.
Tell them you have an incredibly tight-knit circle of family and friends who check on you every single day. Act like your people—or a high-tech security camera system—are watching.
Let them believe that even if you don’t see your family every single day, they still know your exact mood and state of mind. Tell them your friends can spot a change in your energy within five seconds.
Deliver this statement in a calm, bored tone—like you’re reading a shopping list.
Lie number three: Tell them you are completely broke and have absolutely no financial resources or assets.
Narcissists are natural parasites. They look at your life and see a free grocery store. They don’t just want your heart. They want your bank account, your car, your good credit score, and your home.
If you’re open and honest about your financial health, you’re leaving the bank worldwide open for them to walk in.
