The most unfair part of loving a narcissist—being with one—is that you’re the person who constantly has to pay the heavy price for their absolute lack of self-control. They live their life like a reckless driver speeding down a steep mountain with absolutely no brakes, and you’re trapped in the passenger seat just bracing for the painful crash. When they completely lack sexual discipline, for example, your physical health is put at massive risk because of STDs and whatnot. When they lack financial discipline, your entire household goes broke. No matter how hard you work to earn money, they get to enjoy all the cheap thrills, the secret affairs, and the explosive moments of rage and anger—while you’re left holding the heavy bag. And you desperately try to sweep up the broken glass they left behind.
