The final goal may be complete destruction of your life as you knew it: isolating you, undermining your employment and stability, and removing your support network. The intent may be to leave you regretful, powerless, and without resources or protection. In some cases, people may gain satisfaction from causing your suffering and may show little to no guilt or remorse.
If this is happening to you
If you are going through this, reach out for support. Contact an educated therapist, a local domestic violence shelter or advocate, or a reputable support group. Getting support from someone who believes you and understands what you are experiencing can be critical.
If you feel in danger, contact local law enforcement immediately.
Also, it is usually not a good idea to confront or try to expose an abuser on your own—especially if you are not in a safe position.
