They know how to stand in the fire, feel the intense heat, and still walk forward instead of turning around and jumping back into the flames. This is exactly where the entire power dynamic flips completely upside down.
When a narcissist realizes they are dealing with a social lone wolf, they start to panic because their classic tricks suddenly fail.
Think about the silent treatment. For example, a narcissist loves to go quiet. They love to ignore you, stonewall you, walk past you like you’re a ghost, and shut you out just to cause panic in your nervous system. They sit in the other room with their arms closed, just waiting for you to knock on the door and beg them to talk.
But the silent treatment becomes incredibly weak when solitude does not frighten you. When the narcissist stops talking, the lone wolf empath just enjoys the quiet. You read a book. You go for a walk. You make dinner. You’re like, “Oh—this is what I wanted.” The punishment actually feels like a peaceful vacation.
The narcissist expects you to starve, but instead you’re thriving in the silence.
What about social isolation? A narcissist loves to slowly cut you off from your friends and family so that they become your only source of connection. But social isolation becomes so much harder to pull off when they’re dealing with someone who already knows how to build relationships independently.
You cannot isolate a lone wolf because they know how to navigate the forest by themselves. They know how to make new friends, find new communities, and create their own support system no matter where they go.
