Financial discipline is replaced by their ego. A narcissist can earn a fantastic, high-paying salary and still keep your entire household financially drowning on a daily basis. Why? Because they don’t manage their money based on adult responsibility. Their financial discipline is completely replaced by their fragile ego. They treat the family bank account like their own private ATM—money to fund their public image and their momentary desires.
They will magically find hundreds or thousands of dollars for their expensive hobbies, flashy new clothes, trips with friends, or buying generous gifts for complete outsiders just to look like a hero in public. But the exact second you need to pay for a boring household repair—or the children desperately need new shoes—they suddenly become extremely calculating, cold, and cheap.
They will loudly argue with you over spending $10 for basic groceries after they just spent $5,000 on something without a second thought. They necessarily don’t lack money. They simply lack the financial discipline to put boring adult responsibilities before their pleasurable, exciting spending.
Family money is supposed to be a shared safety net. But to a narcissist, it’s just fuel for their personal power and public image. Now, if you remember the sheer stress of trying to manage a home while they recklessly burn through the money, drop the word “stability” in the comments right now because I would like you to take your financial power back today.
