They need you to break down, stop taking care of yourself, and spend the rest of your life crying over losing them. They need you to look miserable so they can feel powerful.
But then they check your social media, or they hear about you through a mutual friend, or they see you walking down the street—and you don’t look broken. You look incredible. You look lighter. You look fit. Your eyes are bright. Your posture is straight, and you’re smiling with a real, genuine smile.
That visual image is the ultimate narcissistic injury. It shatters their illusional reality. It proves to them—and to everyone else—that they were the problem all along. Your glowing face is undeniable physical proof that losing them was the best thing that ever happened to your health.
They can’t stand that they couldn’t destroy you. They can’t stand that you’re rebuilding your life and looking better than you ever did when you were sleeping next to them.
