Stop Waiting for Closure — The Narcissist Already Planned Their Return

When the planned return fails—when the fake closure gets no response—the narcissist rarely just accepts it. They often escalate, because a door that won’t open is intolerable to someone who counted on it.

The soft messages may harden. Guilt may enter.

After everything, you can’t even give me a conversation.

The request for closure flips suddenly into an accusation about your coldness. Notice that flip, because it exposes everything.

A person genuinely offering you closure doesn’t get angry when you decline it. They respect your peace, because your peace was the point.

A person whose return got blocked gets angry because the closure was never for you. Their frustration at your silence is the confession that the whole offering was about reopening access, not resolving your pain. Their reaction tells you what their words hid.

And when the escalation fails too, the storytelling often begins.

They retell you as the one who wouldn’t even allow a conversation—the unreasonable one, the one holding a grudge. This narrative can reach you through others, and it stings because it inverts the truth so completely.

But understand what it is:

It’s their closure, not yours. They’re closing the account on their terms, casting you as the villain so they never have to sit with being the one who was refused.

Here’s the consequence that matters most on their side, though:

A narcissist who cannot execute a planned return loses more than one source. They lose the illusion of permanence—the comforting belief that discarded people stay reclaimable forever.

Your firmly closed door teaches their psychology something it desperately doesn’t want to learn: that some doors, once shut, are shut for good.

And that lesson haunts them far more than any confrontation could.

Now turn to your side, because this is where the reward lives.
