They treat your main narcissist partner like a prize they own, and they treat you like a temporary bad employee who is running their investment into the ground. If you let them sit on your couch, they will spend the entire visit subtly rewriting the rules of your household right in front of your face.
They will talk over you, make parenting decisions for your children, and whisper to each other in the kitchen to make you feel like a complete stranger in the home you pay for—or have paid for. They will even try to turn your partner against you during dinner, dropping passive-aggressive hints about how things used to be better before you came along, and about how you did not serve them today the way they expected you to.
Their crazy-making drama never ends. Your home is supposed to be your sanctuary, your one safe place to breathe. But the second this toxic duo walks through your door, they turn your living room into a cold courtroom where you are always on trial and found guilty.
Second, never invite the aging narcissist who uses their gray hair, wrinkles, and shaking hands as a bulletproof vest. This is the older relative who thinks that getting older gives them a legal lifetime permit to treat everyone around them like absolute garbage.
They walk into your house and instantly start barking orders or making cruel, biting comments about your weight, your parenting, your cooking, or your career choices. They love to drop heavy insulting remarks under the guise of just being helpful advice.
But the exact second you stand up for yourself, hold your ground, and say, “Enough is enough,” they completely flip the script. Suddenly the fierce dictator vanishes, and they turn into a fragile, heartbroken victim.
They clutch their chest, pretend their blood pressure is rising to dangerous levels, and start crying about how nobody respects their old age anymore. They use their physical weakness and health scares to guilt-trip you into complete submission. They will weaponize phrases like, “I won’t be around much longer,” just to force you to accept their abuse.
