You’re telling them that no matter how poorly they behave, your natural instinct will be to try harder to please them.
You must install an emergency escape button in their mind to completely flip the balance of power.
Tell them you detach instantly and walk away forever the moment someone shows you disrespect. Frame it as an automatic system—like a circuit breaker that trips during a power surge to protect the house.
Explain that you do not hold grudges, you do not throw tantrums, and you do not negotiate. Your feelings simply vanish into thin air, and you walk away without a single drop of regret or second thought.
When a narcissist genuinely believes you can and will discard them in one second flat—with no emotional pain—they’re forced to operate with extreme caution. They realize their usual manipulation tricks won’t hook you deeper. They’ll simply trigger your permanent disappearance.
