When Narcissists Notice That You’re Powerful and Self-reliant, They Will Do This!

When narcissists notice that you’re powerful and self-reliant, they will respond to this in their quest for power. Narcissists crave power like nothing else; they have a strong need to assert control and command over the people in their immediate surroundings, including their spouses, co-workers, and friends. Why do they behave this way? Because they don’t feel in control of the situation and are unsure of what to do. As a result, they will try everything that might work.

Many people have been in long-term, violent relationships that have lasted a very long time. Codependent and narcissistic behavior is focused on gaining power and dominance over others. They will try to exert control over you, regardless of whether they consider you an easy or difficult target. In today’s article, we’ll take a look at some of the tactics narcissists use to get rid of people they consider a threat. These threats are often strong, self-reliant individuals who have matured in their thinking and actions.

Let’s begin. Because narcissists have a hard time accepting others for who they truly are, they often mistreat those who are not easily swayed. Confident individuals with high self-esteem and grounding tend to make them feel threatened. However, this doesn’t stop narcissists from pursuing these individuals. When dealing with narcissists, no one can truly be whitelisted; both weak and strong individuals will be targeted. The treatment they receive may differ, but the ultimate purpose of a narcissist is to destroy everything that stands in their way.

Narcissists believe that, to boost their own self-esteem, they must lower the self-esteem of others. Even clever and resilient individuals, who may not succumb to their love bombing, can be targeted. We must keep in mind that while narcissists use love bombing to control others, they also have various other methods at their disposal.

For instance, it’s not uncommon for narcissistic individuals to play the victim to gain sympathy. When they realize that flattery and charm aren’t enough, they exhibit little regard for the feelings of others. All they need is something to work with, so they’ll settle for whatever they can get—love, admiration, pity, or even hatred. This shows that they are important to you and that you have a mental and emotional involvement with them. If they can make you feel sorry for them, they will stick to that strategy, adding flattery and charm for good measure.

Thus, the narcissist’s last-ditch effort to gain control over us and force us to conform to their will is to appeal to our sympathy. They may dishonestly claim to be unwell or afflicted to avoid responsibilities. Furthermore, they might purposefully harm themselves to draw your attention. It’s common for them to lash out and demand that you are the only one who can help them, repeating this insistently.

To achieve the level of control they believe is necessary, narcissists are outstanding actors. They will appear weak when confronted with someone stronger in an attempt to gain your trust. Their vulnerability and humility are merely strategies to ruin you. They try to exert control over their victims, turning around to manipulate and bring you down, despite your previous attempts to help them.
