After surviving the brutal internal war, one day something inside her simply shifts. The heavy storm runs out of rain. The same nasty words that used to hurt her deeply and make her cry now sound completely predictable. The manipulation tactics feel incredibly obvious. The threats he used to scare her suddenly seem small and powerless. In this stage, she stops reacting. Why? Because she finally understands.
Think of a roaring campfire; when you stop throwing heavy logs into it, eventually it burns out of fuel. The bright red flames die down, leaving only cold gray ash. She has stopped feeding her emotional energy into his fire. Her nervous system begins to calm down; her heart stops racing when he walks into the room. Her own intuition becomes louder than his constant gaslighting. Her peace of mind becomes more valuable than saving the relationship.
This is when the narcissist goes into a state of absolute panic. He realizes she is no longer fighting him, no longer defending herself against his crazy accusations. She is simply done explaining herself. He may try to poke and insult her or trigger her, but she just looks at him with a blank stare. She has completely detached her soul from his games, and he knows he has lost his grip.
